TRAVEL TIPS: NIUE 2,400 kilometers northeast of New Zealand and a part of the triangle formed by the Kingdom of Tonga to the west, the Samoa's to the north and the Cook Islands to the east, sits Niue Island. Niu ē translates to mean "Behold the coconut" but the land has been known by a few names in her time; Like the one Captain James Cook coined in 1774, "Savage Island". Legend has it; the natives that "greeted" him were painted in what appeared to Cook and his crew to be blood. It turns out that the suspicious substance on their teeth was from the harmless hulahula, a native red banana- But Cook wasn't so keen to stick around and find that out- so the name "Savage Island " stuck for a couple of centuries. Niue is also affectionately known as "The Rock of Polynesia" due to the fact...
We visited this remote island in the South Pacific in 2012 on the (then) once weekly fligth from Auckland. Niue is not your typical South Pacific Island with snowy white sand and swaying palm trees! But what they lack in terms of beaches the reason why you should come here, is the people of the island! Incredible hospitable and we felt that the entire island met us at the airport on arrival. Immediately invited to chair in local traditions (as the weekly sundowner on the beach bar) to local festivities. And on top of the people iot is the incredible diving that are offered on Niue. This is a very special place in the South Pacific scheme of things! The video was given to us by the Niue Tourism Office.

Niue (/ˈnjuːeɪ/ NEW-ay; Niuean: Niuē) is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,400 kilometres (1,500 mi) northeast of New Zealand within the triangle formed by Tonga to the west, Samoa to the north, and the Cook Islands to the east. Its land area is 260 square kilometres (100 sq mi) and its population, predominantly Polynesian, is around 1,400. They commonly refer to the island as "The Rock", a reference to the traditional name "Rock of Polynesia". Tonga is a magnificently beautiful country. The Kingdom is a constitutional Monarchy, modeled after England and uses English law as its base. Located in the grand South Pacific, Tonga is between Tahiti and Fiji, an independent island nation in the southern Pacific Ocean, located approximately 650 km (approximately 400 mi) southeast of Fiji and approximately 1,850 km (approximately 1,150 mi) northeast of New Zealand. Tonga is the only remaining Polynesian monarchy. The Vava’u Island Group. This Cluster of islands, North of the Ha’apai Group, is the most spectacular in Tonga. Vava’u is Tonga’s northern island group, made up of over 60 high and thickly forested isles. JXN Volume 4 - KAINA "Tau Fuata Niue" Composed by Halafeleti Halatutavaha, Billie, Sionepulu, Pili Lupo & Fale Limoni. Thank you to Sarah Halatutavaha for giving me permission to do this cover. I Grew up listening to Manu Folau's cover in Niue and it felt right to add my flavor to it now. It has a lil surprise that is not part of the original song. Its not your traditional niuean sound but its my take on keeping it "Roots". So i hope you all like it and share to all your family and friends, I'll do my best to continue representing our lil Rock Niue Fekai...now, the future and beyond. What better way to end the year! Chehoo!!! Official Album next February 2015. WTS

Ko E Motu Kehe Lagi - #129 Ko E Tau Lologo Tapu. Ko e motu kehe lagi is a lologo mauku (Funeral hymn) usually sung when the coffin enters/exits the fale tapu (church). We have farewelled our departed with this chorus for generations now, and NYN would like to dedicate this hymn to our beautiful ancestors who have paved the way and carved the vaka for our current generation to sail in, we are beyond grateful and will never forget the voices of the past.
